The scope
Laminates based on polymers, aluminium, paper, and film substrates are excellent materials for all kinds of packaging, which require high barriers and efficient manufacturing processes. Flexible packaging laminates play an important role in modern life providing safe, low-priced, and sustainable distribution of every-day products. Specialists are responsible for monitoring the product quality and key technologies throughout the whole supply chain, in order to guarantee a reliably delivery of packed products. For this reason, close communication and regular exchange between everyone involved in the supply chain is of main interest of the whole industry. For over thirty years, the European PLACE Conference has provided the platform for technical experts who keep on running the supply chain in every-day business. It is a conference, which experts organize for experts to bring them together.
The participants
The European PLACE Conference brings together engineers and chemists from industry and academia, which are concerned with all kind of technical issues regarding laminates for packaging. This includes the whole packaging supply chain and the suppliers of machinery for processing laminates: On the one hand, raw material suppliers, laminate producers and coaters, brand owners and contract packers, and recyclers. On the other hand, suppliers of equipment, machinery, and solutions for extrusion, laminating, coating, packaging, and recycling. This unique and proven format provides a broad audience of experts from research and development, production engineering and quality control.
The topics
The European PLACE Conference hosts excellent presentations and discussions on recent topics on raw materials, extruding, laminating, coating, forming, sealing, distributing, consumer’s handling, and recycling. It raises the urgent topics that keeps the industry busy: Opportunities and challenges of new materials, increasing customer expectations, tightened legislatives on recycling, and more. Ultimately, each participant plays an active role by contributing with a presentation or discussion, which gives an insight into their work. This is the key factor for the success of the European PLACE Conference.

How to contribute
Highly relevant and superior contributions from industry and academia are the fundament of the European PLACE Conference. Being a speaker is your opportunity to find colleagues, which face the same challenges. Present a recent innovation to get a feedback of the audience or initiate a discussion on an unsolved issue:
- Short plenary discussion (15min): Give a short introduction to an unsolved case or a phenomenon you cannot explain. Ask your colleagues about their ideas.
Short plenary discussions include a 5 minutes presentation of the question that you want to ask and a ten minutes discussion moderated by the session chair. Contributors are requested to provide a presentation of maximum 5 slides.
- Technical presentation (25min): Present your solution, innovation, and research. Get feedback from the audience. Share and publish your ideas to your peers in the industry.
Technical presentations are 20 minutes presentation including a precise description of the problem, a comprehensible notion of the used methods, and a well-arranged assembly of the results. In addition to the presentation provided for the conference, the contributors are encouraged to submit a paper of maximum 12 pages for the conference proceedings to be published in the peer reviewed and open access TAPPI Journal.
- Posters: Get into conversation with your colleagues about your work in the coffee break.
Posters may include a topic similar to a short plenary discussion or technical presentation. Please ensure high resolution of your figures and tables to be printed on a poster of size DIN A0 (85 cm x 120 cm).
PowerPoint and Word templates for the presentations, papers, and posters are provided here. Please submit your presentation and paper here.
